Glamorous Gloucester
After all the brouhaha in the media about --- well, who needs to hear more about all that? --- it might come as a surprise to some of my faithful readers that Gloucester is, in fact, considered quite glamorous by some --- or soon will be. As proof you need only to check our good friend Cap't Joe's wonderful Good Morning Gloucester Blog!
It seems the British edition of Glamour Magazine recently sent a model, a photographer and assorted toadies to Gloucester to shoot a spread down on Joe's dock featuring real live Gloucester fishermen and one exquisitely beautiful red-haired model in various get-ups that can be purchased for exorbitant sums in a boutique near you. The guys loved it and all said the model, Brazilian Cintia Dicker, was a trooper. She even donned the British Glamour Magazine's version of lobstermen's work clothes and posed with a couple of lobsters.
Of course this is all great fun and quite a nice boost for the world's opinion of Gloucester. From what I have seen of Joe's photos of the shoot posted on his blog it looks like the spread will be quite entertaining. Of course fashion magazines love to do this --- take a gorgeous beauty and place her in a unique and quirky setting among workingmen --- cowboys, lumberjacks, soldiers and now Gloucester fishermen.
Damon Cummings, a Gloucester icon who rows his dory across the “habah” every morning happened to be rowing by when the shoot was in progress so Joe called him over. The crew decided to put Cintia and a photographer in Damon's boat and Damon said she did great --- hopped right in the boat without a fuss and made herself at home. Of course, photographing Damon, being something of a local fashionista himself in his t-shirts jeans and baseball caps, would be quite
a coup for any fashion magazine!
Here's the thing. I LOVE Gloucester and I love what is left of our waterfront. And, of course, I have a special attachment to the local lobstering community and always will. So the idea of British fashionistas buying their favorite magazine and seeing our working waterfront glamorized thusly just tickles me pink. And I can't wait to see some of our local guys in Glamour Magazine --- I bet their wives and girlfriends can't either. Joe's the one in the yellow Grundies.
So many thanks to Cap't Joe for documenting the excitement on his blog --- go there and read all about it.
Joe has posted a lot of photos that he took while the shoot was going on ---including the ones I swiped to post here --- as well as video, links to the web sites of the model and photographer, and more. Joe even took the crew to The Crow's Nest for drinks.
And congratulations to British Glamour for finally getting some real glam in their pages.
Thanks for reading.
