Knitting for Klingons or...
See this thing:
What do you suppose that is? If you said a Klingon weapon you would be close... well, not really but that's what it looks like doesn't it? What you are looking at is the latest innovation from my dear friend metalsmith Leslie Wind. Leslie has been a metalsmith for forty years and has created some of the most unique and innovative designs I've ever seen. But the gizmo above is AMAZING --- at least for knitters. This extraordinary piece of jewelry is her most recent innovation, the Cable Needle Necklace™ which she is in the process of patenting. As you can see, it is a stunning piece of jewelry but, in addition, it can be used as a cable needle for all you knitters who knit cables and are always looking for that third needle. See the article about it on Leslie's blog.
To see how this works check out the video created by Darcy, the Knotty Knitter. It's really slick. How Leslie comes up with these things is beyond me. She lives in a little pink cottage out in Folly Cove across the street from the pounding waves and huge rocks that distinguish that little cove. And the beach roses --- hundreds of beach roses. She sits in her little studio in the front of her house with Ipswich Bay in front of her and birds and butterflies and dragonflies and gulls all around. You can smell the salt water and the roses. And she dreams up the most amazing creations.
The Cable Needle Necklace™ comes in a variety of styles and is made of silver and bronze. It can be ordered online through Darcy's web site or by calling Leslie. If you are a knitter, you know you want one --- you just have to have one, that's all there is to it. If you love a knitter, now you know what to get her. At $40 this distinctive and useful piece is a bargain and it can be engraved which is a good idea because you know all your fellow knitters are going to try to swipe it.
Leslie is one of my favorite people in the world and the fact that she makes such brilliant things delights me. Check out the video and then get one. You'll love it.
Thanks for reading.
